Choosing to do what’s right and good requires that we believe, not only do we know, but we must believe that we have a choice. ( see “I HAVE A CHOICE”) Only then will we experience the joy of choosing to do whats right and good. So, how do we teach a child to choose to do the right thing? This, just like everything starts with a loving supportive environment. (See a recipe for success) Next we create opportunities to choose to do what’s right and good. For example, “Jonny, sally’s hands are full, can you open the door for her?” Then, we simply give positive affirmation to Jonny and say great job choosing to do what right and good. Over time, the child will have a positive association with doing good even when no praise is given.
